CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (CPTED) IS THE DESIGN OR REDESIGN OF AN ENVIRONMENT TO REDUCE CRIME OPPORTUNITY THROUGH NATURAL, MECHANICAL, AND PROCEDURAL MEANS. USING A MULTI-PROFESSIONAL APPROACH, PLANNERS, DESIGNERS, ARCHITECTS, LANDSCAPERS, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT PROFESSIONALS WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A SAFE CLIMATE WITHIN A BUILT ENVIRONMENT. THE CPTED PREMISE IS THAT PROPER DESIGN AND EFFECTIVE USE OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT CAN REDUCE CRIME AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS.
